When you and your fiance can both wipe each other’s tears and smash cake in each others’ faces, you know you’ve got a good thing going. Hayley and Logan have got both bases covered! Their wedding ceremony at St. Mark United Methodist in Seneca was a beautiful worship service, and afterwards, a little rain couldn’t dampen anyone’s spirits as they danced the night away at Woodburn Historic House in Pendleton.
In addition to showcasing their beautiful wedding, I think Hayley and Logan’s wedding can help illustrate a few valuable tips for dealing when it ra–ii–aaaaains on your wedding day (other than blasting Alanis Morissette). Looking at these first few photos, you might think, what rain? Everything stayed dry up until the ceremony, and then the skies opened up as everyone headed to the reception. Despite the stormy weather, everyone still had a blast! Here are a few ideas to steal from this wedding if it’s looking a bit damp for your big day.
- Have a backup plan, particularly if you are having an outdoor ceremony or reception. When you’re searching for venues, ask about alternatives for inclement weather. If your venue doesn’t have an available indoor space, tents (either provided by the venue or rented separately) can keep everybody dry.
- Be flexible, especially when it comes to photos. Hayley and Logan had already planned to have a first look, which worked out perfectly since it didn’t rain before their ceremony – but we still got rained out of doing post-ceremony photos in the field at their venue. So instead, we did some portraits on the covered porch at Woodburn, which was so gorgeous! Whether it means doing portraits inside, finding covered space outside, or looking for breaks in the rain to get portraits done, be willing to roll with the new plan and understand that the timeline may need to adjust a bit accordingly.
- Attitude is EVERYTHING. Don’t stress about the weather; focus on the love you’re celebrating with your new husband or wife! Whether it rains or not, you will be just as married, and your family and friends will still be there to celebrate with you. Hayley and Logan and their guests nailed this one. Even in some of the heaviest rain I’ve seen at a wedding, they still had one of the most joyful dance parties I’ve gotten to photograph! You may get a little wet; your dress may get a little muddy; but you and your guests can still have an awesome time.
Hayley and Logan – your wedding was absolutely beautiful, and if rain on your wedding day is lucky, you two are going to have an AWESOME marriage!! But after working with you two, we know that would be the case anyway. 🙂 Best wishes to the two of you and thank you so much for allowing us to capture your day!
